Certifications - Social Responsability
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been defined, on the Green Book of the European Commission 2001, as a “voluntary integration of social and environmental concerns of corporations in their business activities and in their relationship with the interested parties”. The document specifies that being socially responsible means “not only fully meeting one’s applicable legal obligations, but going beyond, investing more in human resources, in the environment and in the relationship with the interested parties”.
In addition, the CSR’s theme must be framed within the context of the policies for competitiveness of the companies and economic system, directly linked to the concept of “sustainable development”. Sustainability is the “ability of an organization (or corporation) to continue, over time, its activities while keeping in due consideration the impact of such activities on the natural, social and human context” (ISEA – Institute of Social and Ethical Accountability, Accountability 1000 framework). In other words, CSR is the contribution that companies offer to sustainable development.
The parties involved in the concept of corporate social responsibility management are all “stakeholders” belonging to the following identified categories:
Shareholders/Quota holders and the Financial Community
Government, Local Entities, and Public Administration
Compliance of the Company to the requirements of this standard is confirmed through the certification issued by a third party agency (Accredited Certification Body), through procedures similar to those used for other management systems (quality, environment, health and safety).
SA 8000 is based on 9 essential requirements:
forced and mandatory labor
Health and safety
freedom of association and collective bargaining
Certifications - Quality and Environment
The Quality and Environmental Management System is a combination of rules and procedures, defined by an internationally recognized standard that a firm applies with the purpose of achieving specific objectives, such as client satisfaction and continuous improvement of its quality and environmental performance.
The certification of a Quality and Environmental Management System of an organization by a third party represents an organization’s strategic decision.
On the one hand, the certification is an acknowledgement of the entrepreneurship of a company that has been able to optimize its structure equipping itself with efficient management tools, adequate structures and human resource skills and, on the other hand, it is also a guarantee of reliability for clients, suppliers, employees and overall all the interested parties.
The UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 and 14001:2004 standards, promote an approach to the development processes of quality and environmental management systems as well as their implementation and efficiency improvement. The goals are:
Increasing customer satisfaction by meeting the client’s requirements;
Improving environmental performance.
The approach is implemented by:
Understanding and satisfying the applicable quality and environmental requirements;
Identifying the major environmental aspects and the requirements of law applicable to the organization and verify compliance;
Thinking of processes as value added services;
Achieving results in terms of performance and effectiveness of processes;
Continuously improving the processes on the basis of objective evaluations
